Nigerian International e-Passport has been Launched with Varying Prices and Validity Period Lasting up to 10 Years
On 29th January 2019, President Muhammad Buhari launched the new electronic international passport that has a validity of up to 10 years and about 64 pages.
The National Immigration Service (NIS) controller general- Mr. Mohammad Babandede issued President Muhammad Buhari his own 10 – year validity passport at a ceremony conducted at a Federal Executive Meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The NIS boss commented that the passport has new advanced features that will promote security management. He did say that the old passport is still relevant and work with the new one until they are totally replaced.
The new electronic international passport has varying prices and varying validity periods listed below:
- ₦25, 000: This package gives you a 32-page passport with a 5 years validity period. It can also be purchased for $130 abroad.
- ₦30,000: This package has a validity period of 5 years and is a 64-page document, it also goes for $150 abroad.
- ₦70,000: This package has a 10-year validity period and comes with 64 pages. It goes for $230 abroad.
The new passport has some distinct features like polycarbonate technology that makes it able to withstand weather changes and reduce damage rate. It will also reduce embassy visits by Nigerians in Diaspora. The demand came from Nigerians in Diaspora and the federal government has supplied.
